I have three original studio photos of Hans Haccius and Mrs. Hans Haccius, which I would like to get back to family members. Two of the photos are Cabinet Cards (one each of Hans, and Mrs. Hans) and were taken by “O. Elliott Studio”, 235 S. California St., Stockton, CA. These were taken approximately 1895 (my estimate based on the type of photo). He looks to be about age 55, and she about the same.

The third photo, of Hans alone has no town listed, however it was taken probably 10-15 years after the first one, for he looks to be about age 70. He is a distinguished man, having a well shaped beard and mustache. He also is wearing some sort of society pin in each photo.

The handwriting on the photos states the last name is Haxius, however this is definitely in error, as I found Hans Haccius living in San Joaquin Co. in censuses of 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920. In 1880 he was a barber living in Stockton, age 35, wife’s name Antonie, age 35. Children were Emily and Louisa. By 1900 census, living in Castoria Twp., he was age 55, a saloon keeper, and a widower. His DOB was July 1944. In 1910 and 1920, he lived in Dent Twp., and was a barber, now married for two years to a second wife, Mary, age 40. San Joaquin Vital Records show his DOB as 14 Jul 1844, in Germany, and he died 23 Mar 1929, San Joaquin Co.
