Jerry: Perhaps you are mis-reading what they told you. Of course there were many Henry Smiths who died in California after the state started keeping death records in July 1905. The online California Death Index which covers 1940-1997 has close to 900 Henry Smiths listed so that pretty much discounts no Henry Smiths dying in CA after 1905. I think what you might have been told is that they don't have a RECORD of a Henry Smith dying in California in Nov. of 1907. That is certainly possible particularly when you consider that this was very early on in the state's vital records keeping. Since you have paid twice for a search, to no avail, then its likely no death certificate was ever completed or the name was butchered or the certificate was lost/misfiled or who knows? Don't feel bad, I did the same thing for my grandmother, I know her date and place of death, even the hospital she died in, and I know that the state REQUIRED death certificates (1950s) yet still nothing. Rick
