I am researching part of my very extensive Mead family.
Alice Rachael Mead was one of six children of Othe Back and Eliza J. Stella Mead Back who were in Flagstaff, AZ on the 1900 census. The father, Othe, died in 11-1902. Afterward the mother was unable to suuport her six children so she placed all six out for adoption. I have located/identified three of them.
Just rcently I found where Alice Rachael is found on the 1910 census listed as Rachael BACH in the Los Angeles Orphans Asylum in Los Angeles. Census says she was born in AZ; the birth year is right. She can read and write and is attending school.
Then on the 1920 census, I find her listed as Rachael BACHE still at the Lost Angeles Orphans Asylum in Los Angeles. Census says she was born in AZ; the birth year is right. The census states she can read and write. She is about 24 years of age.
Now, I find an Alice Back, age 39 on the 1930 census in San Francisco working as a servant in the home of Sigmund Neuhaus and his family. The census says this Alice Back was born in CA. The birth year is a little off from 1896 for my Alice Rachel Back - but we all know how accurate census takers were.
Does anyone know who this Alice Back on the 1930 census might be? Who were her parents? What became of her after the 1930 census.
Any information appreciated.
