Cal Deaths show:

LODER, Robert, b. 01 Oct 1901, mmn Raynard, male, b. NY, d. San Diego County 02 July 1984.

If I were his niece, I would go to and work my way down to San Diego County. This will list what info is needed, cost involved, etc, at obtaining death cert. It's a little less expensive to write directly from the county where someone died, but if time is of the essence, you might want to steer her toward ordering it with the vitalrec co. You can usually order from that private company via credit card or just write directly for the death cert. which will show the person's last residential address, occupation, amount of time they were living in county/state, sometimes employer, and the person reporting their death usually a family member, should also have info on DR reporting death, hospital, etc....

Best Wishes.
