Chas. A. de Lisle-Holland, owner of Panama Canal Concession Co, created Panama Canal Extravaganza, a mammoth amusement concession to run on the Isthmus during the 1915 San Diego Expedition. The mascots are a boy and girl, twins.
The twins, named Miraflores and Gatun, after locks in the canal, are really named James T.Jr and Janet Cawthorne, twins born last Sept to James T. Cawthorne, sales manager of the Panama Canal Concession Co.
A picture (poor quality) is of Charles Holland holding the twins atop the cornerstone laid at the ceremony, with James Sr. standing underneath.
