Hi Debbie,

I am doing research for my family lineage, and I came across your post about the Ward family in Campo, San Diego. I can't be sure, but I think our searches may intertwine. John Ward was my great-great grandfather. My cousins and I are trying to put together information regarding our lineage, and that is how I came across your post. I would love to go over the details of what I know vs. what you know to see if we are on the same path to figure out this puzzle. Here is some of my side of the history:

John Ward, born 1833, Kentucky, died July 25, 1896 Campo and Guatay Townships, San Diego, California
I am not certain on the name of his wife, but it has been our family belief that she was Indian, possibly Choctaw, but we are still doing research on this. I know the sites say she was from Mexico, so I'm not very clear on this. My grandmother, and my great grandfather looked like they could be of Indian descent. I don't have any information about John Ward's parents...this is where we are stuck.

They had 7 children: Frank, Martha, John, Maria, James, Helen, and Teresa

My lineage is from James Ward

James Ward, born April 9, 1890, Campo, CA. Died Jan 1980 Ontario, CA.
Married to Maude Lillian Hill, born 1891, Santa Ana, CA. Died 1927. He re-married Vilma Ward, born 1901

They had a daughter, Barbara Alice Ward, born October 10, 1921, San Diego, CA. Died May 19, 2005, Escondido, CA.
Married to Claude B. Sherman, born July 6, 1913, San Diego, CA. They divorced so I don't know much about him. She was re-married to Edward Roy Johnson

Barbara and Claude had 3 children: Charles B. Sherman, Beverly Jean Sherman, and James Robert Ward (he was adopted by his grandfather - James and Vilma Ward)

James Ward is my father.

Ok, after typing all this I truly hope I am sending it to the right person! I live in San Diego, so if we are both on the same track and you need me to research something, I may be able to help you out.

Debbie Cartagena (great name by the way!)
