Thank you Constance for your response, unfortunately he did die in 1895 so I suppose he did not have a SS#. Do you know what official forms would have to be filed by a Canadian living in the U.S during that time frame on which he would have to state not only where he came from but also his fathers name? I know he entered some time prior to the 1880 Census from Canada into Michigan. He married an American in Michigan in 1885 but there is no father's name listed on the LDS film. Would it have been compulsory on the actual marriage certificate?
