Hello Marilyn,

I am looking at a map of San Bernardino County right now. I don't know if these bases were there in 1941, but they've been there a long time: China Lake Naval Weapons Center, Fort Irwin National Training Center and The Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms.

For San Bernardino library info, I think you can run California Public Libraries or Library and it lists all public libraries in California, but you might have to go through a few layers.

Best Wishes to you.
