Hi Darla - I'm sorry to be replying to your kind offer so late, but I just got the notification in my email box that someone had responded to my posting. I finally did send for the marriage license but it provided little information itself. What I did learn was that it was incorrectly returned to Sacramento County rather than Yuba County where the marriage was actually performed. So...the current clerk at Sacramento County mailed it to the current clerk at Yuba County and I had to re-submit my copy request to Yuba County for a copy! My Amelia Raymond married Samuel Hoagland/Hogland in Yuba County but she first appeared in Sacramento in 1856. Court records and newspaper notices enabled me to follow her life in Sacramento from 1855-1857. In the 1860 census, Samuel and Amelia are living in Sutter Twp. in Sacramento County. Something happened to this marriage - perhaps Samuel died? Amelia married again in April 1862 to Rufus Smith in Sacramento but no marriage license has ever been located.
