Elizabeth - Thanks so very much !!! That's exactly what I was looking for. William Moyle was my great-grandfather. He left Grant County, Wisconsin,in 1858 with William Rapson, Joseph Mitchell and John Williams. He said they made several claims "each claim being 100 feet and run to the summit". He says they were quite successful and when they all got back to Wisconsin Moyle married Elizabeth Rapson, the daughter of William Rapson. I see that Joseph Mitchell is often listed on the claim with Moyle and Rapson. I see that there is a Pooley on one of the claims, too. Another one of Rapson's daughters married a Pooley in Wisconsin, too.
Maybe these claims taken in 1863 were the good ones, because the men went back to Wisconsin in 1864 with enough money to buy a hotel and a farm.
The Martino Moyle who took the claim in 1868 was probably unrelated, but I will pass the information on to our folks who are doing a one name study on all the Moyles they can find anywhere in the world at any time.
