Mining claims were also, generally, recorded with the county. I'm visiting the Recorder's Office today, and will check to see if Moyle recorded one. Documented claims from way back then are sparse, but I'll see what I can do. I believe that Robin is correct, also, in saying that Rabbit Creek was probably in the LaPorte area.
