I have done a bunch of personal gen research and learned about how much info is on some of the CA sites and how to search them. I check the messages every couple days in hopes of helping someone who doesn't know about the search sites. (A little "payback" because others have helped me so much).

I don't know anyone from your family. In order to find his children, with a last name as common as Taylor, you kind of need the names of the children or years they were born and when or the mother's maiden name. That's where a copy of his death cert will help you out. Should list reporting party of his death (living wife at the time, or perhaps a child)...You can work from there.
