PURDY, 2 alike families, which one???

According to the 1880 Nevada County Census, there were 2 families in Grass Valley headed by James PURDY:

James PURDY, 57, Miner, England
Malinda 40, Wife, England
Mary 1, Daughter, California
Margaret 11, Daughter, Pennsylvania

James PURDY, 49, Works farm, England
Mary A. 44, Keeping House England
Margaret 10, Daug at School, Pennsylvania
Mary 2 Daughter, California

The PURDY family I'm looking for is James PURDY who married Mary HALKYARD.
Children: Malinda, Margaret, Mary (Mollie), Robert and Jacob (plus 8 that died in England).

Malinda, b. 05 Sep 1864, Eng. m. William Henry BENFIELD, b. 28 Aug Wales, on 22 Mar 1880 Nevada City, Nevada County, CA, USA.
Margaret m. Charlie ALLEN.
Mary (Mollie), b. abt. 1871 Pennsylvania, m. Orin I. PRICHARD 3 Jul 1895 in Pennsylvania.
Robert?
Jacob, b. Sep 1879, Grass Valley, Nevada County, California, USA, supposedly m. Mabel LINCOLN.

Anyone have any thoughts on this strange coincidence? Duplicate submission? Discrepancies in same submission? HELP!!!

Geri R. Gilbert (the last of the GILBERTs from Thomas, 1842, Breage, Cornwall, England)
