Napa Register - Thursday, July 30, 1992 James Morris James Melvin MOrris, 81, died Monday while visiting his daughter in Napa. He was born Dec. 16, 1910, in Boston, Mass. He came to California when he was nine years old and settled in Santa Rosa for the remainder of his schooling. He worked as a radion repairman for Sherman Clay, covering Northern California for several years. In 1932 he married Judith Eleanor Holm in Santa Rosa. In 1933 he went to workk for the U.S. Post Office and served as postmaster in Novato from 1954 to 1960 and in Eureka from 1960 to 1967. He was divorced in 1949 and in 1971 he married Dorothy Leas in Santa Rosa. She died in September, 1987. Following his retirement from the Post Office, he became a hotel manager, first in Napa at the Plaza Hotel, later at the Dunsmuir Hotel in Dunsmuir and his last assignment was the Bret Harte Inn in Grass Valley. Since 1971 he made his home in Auburn and retired the second time in 1981. He married a long-time family friend, Elva Hubbard Woods, in 1988 in Rough & Ready. She died in 1991. He is survived by two sons, James M. Morris, M.D., of Mill Valley ad Clarence J. Morris of Discovery Bay and two daughters, Barbara P. Steele of Napa and Geraldine Meyer of Grass Valley, 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister. Friends are invited to the memorial service on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Richard Pierce Funeral Service, 1660 Silverado Trail, with the Rev. W. Earl Hubbard officiating. Inurnment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Cardiovascular Institute, in care of U.C. Medical Center, Third & Parnassus, San Francisco 94143.
