I have statements that while a family in my tree already had several children of their own, in about 1894 they also took 4 children out of an orphanage at or just outside of the town of Napa. These 4 were all siblings and lost their parents in some tragedy, and they retained their last name. One of the "natural" children later fell in love with and married one of the 4 "orphanage" children, and they have descendants today. I am looking for information on this orphanage. One family member recollected hearing it may have been a Catholic orphanage. I did a search and found another person on the internet who happened to state that his grandfather was "put in an orphanage in Napa, CA" and I found another person who also spoke of a relative who "was living in an Orphanage in Napa Valley California" in the 1800s. So, it looks like there really was such a place. However, I wonder if it burned down. Yet a third thing I found was a hyperlink brought up by a search engine, but the site could not be found when clicked on. It wouldn't open. But the scant bit of info visible in the search engine result said, "... My mother is from Napa, CA and her family names are ... 1917 and 1920 but were put in an orphange, his brother ... burn and all records were lost of the orphans and we ..." I couldn't find anything more in seeking a trace of this orphanage. Can someone find it in an old Napa City Directory or some book, or recommend a resource I might try? I get a GenForum email notification if someone posts a response to this, and will check out your reply. Thanks. Notify Administrator about this message?
