I do have a family tree program but still trying to learn how to use it for information like is posted on this website. I was thinking that a word document might be best for so much information of which some is just thoughts and others are more than likely right.
--------
I did a search on everything regarding Mary and the following is everything on here that was posted and its now in 0ne post here. I am going to copy it to a word document to sort through all of it. If the family tree might be a better option, then I need to find out how to use it for gathering all this information and making good use of it.
===========================================================
The records posted to date for them by Miles show them in 1850 in Mount Pleasant, Green, Wisconsin. Their youngest daughter is Mary E. Lowe, age 1, born about 1849. Then in 1860 Mary age 53 is a widow living in Greenfield, Monroe, Wisconsin. Daughter Mary E Lowe is age 13, still the youngest child in the family. So Mary Merrick cannot be the daughter Mary in this family; born in 1888, she is too young.
In the 1850 census in Green County, Wisconsin, a Thomas Sanderlin lives next door to William and Mary Lowe. Then in 1860, a "Susan Sandelin" age 8 is living with Mary Lowe and children. I am very curious to know who is Susan? Who are her parents, and are they related to William's wife Mary? I haven't pursued this line of research and will leave it to anyone else who can do it (I hope you'll pursue it). The proximity of "Sandelins" to Mary in the census suggests she might have maiden name of Sandelin.

In the above post, I wrote, "There is a Sanderlin child in the 1860 census with William Lowe's wife Mary - this lends credibility to the idea that Mary is Mary Sanderlin (or a similar surname)...Mary Lowe may have died in Monroe County, Wisconsin; at least we last saw her in Monroe County in 1860. Her death record may tell her parents' names."
Meanwhile in another thread on this same topic by you in another forum, a researcher posted this:
"1850 Green WI....Thos SANDERLIN 65 NJ and w/Sarah 60 NJ live next door to Wm and Mary ... LOWE."
We had found that 1850 Green County, Wisconsin record for William and Mary Lowe - but I did not notice the Sanderlins next door. At the time, the name "Sanderlin" had not come up.

There's a Thos Jefferson SANDERLIN Jr in 1834 Jefferson Co Tax List - might be a brother to "your" Mary Lowe. There are many many posts on Genforum from descendants of Thomas Jefferson Sanderlin.
The following MIGHT be the same Thomas Sanderlin:

MARRIAGE
Greenfield [Monroe County], Wisconsin

There is a Sanderlin child in the 1860 census with William Lowe's wife Mary - this lends credibility to the idea that Mary is Mary Sanderlin (or a similar surname).
Mary Lowe may have died in Monroe County, Wisconsin; at least we last saw her in 1860. Her death record may tell her parents' names.

I do know he married Mareda Canfield (not sure when, but assume it was about 1870-71 since their daughter Annie was born in 1872.
I have found them (David, Mareda and three of her Canfield children) in Wisconsin, Grant County in the 1870 census.
Then Chanute, Neosha, Kansas in 1875 along with three Canfield children and Annie age 4.
By 1900 David was in LA, California in the home for disabled Volunteer vets and Mareda was in Bakersfield, California.
I am related through Marida's first husband Eli Canfield. Their daughter Charity Canfield is my gggrandmother.
I do know that one of Charity's sisters Mary Elizabeth married John Chambers Lowe (1839-1915) born in Indiana and they had three children William Henry 1865 WI; Rosa Belle 1870CA and Agnes Pearl 1872CA. I always assumed John was related to David some how, but have not done enough research yet to find out.
I did not even have his birth and death dates and that wonderful information about his military service you have on Find a Grave.
If I come across anything I will pass it on.

"Your" William Lowe is mentioned in this book:
History of Green County [Wisconsin], published 1884
"In 1849 the town of Mount Pleasant was divided into five districts. The officers of the various districts at that time were as follows: No.1.--Thomas Fenton, director: Aranthus Thomas, treasurer; Ephraim Moody, clerk. No.2.--Amos Perry, director; James Bedell, treasurer; Lyman Wright, clerk. No.3.--Henry Adams, director; A.F. Steadman, treasurer; John Manly, clerk. No.4.--William Lowe, director; A.P. Jewell, treasurer; William Boyls, clerk. No.5.--Benjamin Rima, director; Joseph Conklin, treasurer; David McKee, clerk. James L. Powell was town superintendent of schools. On the 1st of September, 1849, the reports of the district clerks show that there were 210 scholars in the town. At that time districts Nos.1 and 4 had log school houses; 2 and 5 stone school houses, and No. 3 was without a house."

I (Miles) cut out the part you mentioned in the above link

I have now noticed you later corrected your post about William and Mary birth places; thanks again for the corrections.
I had the same experiences as you re. finding David's sister Susan and finding their father William.
I found the following death record for Susan in your other thread, in the Wisconsin forum, posted by Carol Powell. I assumed it came from Family Search.
Wisconsin, Deaths
Susan C. Dinia
Death: 19 March 1901
Age 41
Birth: 1860 in Wisconsin
Burial: Iron River
Spouse: George Dinia
Father: David Lowe
Mother: Hannah Lowe
Later I searched Ancestry for Susan/Susanna, etc. with surname Dinia, Denia, Dena, etc. and could not find her or George. I also searched Find-a-Grave. I did not search Family Search.
Like you, I also didn't find William Lowe after the 1850 census. Hard to know whether he died (which is the most likely situation) or whether he left the family (abandonment or divorce).
In 1850 the family is in Green County; in 1860 the family is in Monroe County.

Yes, it's good to summarize the findings like this. I see you've started a new thread, which is excellent. I'll stay out of it, hoping that will encourage other researchers to step in.
Words of caution:
1) You say Mary's maiden name is Sanderlin (or a similar surname). We have no proof of that, only clues that it MIGHT have been.
2) You give William and Mary a birthplace. So far as I know we have no documentation that William Lowe was born in Ohio and that Mary was born in Virginia.
Someone said William and Mary were married in Jefferson County, Ohio. So seemingly someone (was it Marion?) has their marriage record. Their marriage or death records or obits may tell their place of birth and/or parents' names.
Marion (a descendant of John C F Lowe) posted a lot of interesting information on this family. In one of many posts, she wrote, "Only information on his brother David is this. He was called Uncle Scythe by his family. He disappeared during the Civil War."
Below again is that 1850 census, and I'm adding info from Marion's Ancestry post (not verified by me):
1850
Mount Pleasant, Green, Wisconsin
William Lowe 45 b about 1805 Virginia
Mary Lowe 43 b about 1807 Virginia
Benjamin Lowe 18
Joseph P Lowe 16 -
David Lowe 14 b abt 1836 Ohio - m Hannah Hutchins, m Mareda Squires (m Canfield)
Sarah Lowe 12 - married John or Jacob Rumford
William H Lowe 10
John C F Lowe 7 - married Mary Elizabeth Canfield
Cyrus Lowe 5
Mary E Lowe 1 - "Elizabeth"? married Daniel Stuart Lewis?
Sarah Lowe (Rumford) and John C F Lowe BOTH ended up living in California, per Marion. I haven't looked for documentation, just reporting Marion's words.
More from Marion's post on Ancestry.com:
John Chambers F Lowe first married Mary Elizabeth Canfield (18 Sep 1864 in Patch Grove, Grant, WI) and had
CHILDREN:
William Henry Lowe b 23 Dec 1865 Boscobel, Grant, WI m Edith Eva Horn
Rosa Bella Lowe b. 21 April 1870 m. Daniel Rhodes
Agnes Pearl Lowe b 16 Feb 1877 and d about age 11 in 1888
John C F Lowe next married Martha Elizabeth Madison and had
CHILDREN:
Minnie Mae Lowe b 1881 m Albert Miller
John Chambers Lowe, Jr. b 1883
Amer Lowe b 1886
Ade Lowe b 1890
Viola Cecelia Lowe b 1892 m Louis Joseph Graton
According Marion, her family lore says John C F Lowe was b Dec 1839 in Dayton, Tippecanoe, Indiana. John died 1915.
In one of her posts, Marion seems to say that John C F Lowe kept diaries. She also says that "in family writing" John C F Lowe mentioned family members and Marion posts Joseph P., Sarah, David, and Elizabeth as siblings.
1900 census in California says John C F Lowe born Dec 1842 in Indiana, father b Indiana, mother b New Jersey.

EUREKA! My friend, you have cracked it. Here in the marriage record you've just posted are David Lowe's parents names, William and Mary Lowe.

Likely Susanna is a child of Hannah Hutchins from Hannah's marriage to Mr. Cleveland, since she was born ca 1860, before the 1863 marriage of Hannah to David Lowe.
Below is Hannah (= Hannah Hutchins m Cleveland m Lowe); this 1870 census was also posted previously.

With all you've done and accomplished, and all you're doing now, I will bet bet you will prove William and Mary are the parents of "your" David. Good night now Miles and have fun with this - you are on a roll.
--------------------------------------------------
Common sense suggests that William and Mary in the 1850 Wisconsin census are the parents to your David in California. After all, David's future wife is living quite near those parents in Wisconsin. The various records, taken together, would constitute a rather startling coincidence indeed if they were only coincidence.
--------------------------------------------------
To clarify, I was referring to the Sandelin child in the following census, which I had earlier posted for you here, in this thread of yours:
1860
Greenfield, Monroe, Wisconsin
Post Office: Tunnel City
Mary Lowe 53 born about 1807 Pennsylvania <---------Mary
William H Lowe 20
John C Lowe 17
Cyrus L Lowe 15
Mary E Lowe 13
Susan Sandelin 8
This Mary, above, is said to be Mary Sandelin (or similar spelling of that name) by the descendant of John C Lowe whose post I pointed you to. She is the widow of William; she and William are the parents of a David who might be your David (and probably is your David). The original handwritten census document does not shed light on who Susan Sandelin is or why she is living with Mary.
good luck, best wishes

This descendant of William Lowe (via William's son John) has been researching the family I posted. In one of several genealogy forum posts, she wrote:

Note that one of the census records I posted had a Sanderlin child. This person seems to have been diligent in seeking information and may be an excellent contact for you (in addition to the usual routes of seeking public records, as already mentioned).
-------------------------------------------------
It's unfortunate that David Lowe's death record does not state his parents' names. Circumstantial evidence suggests, however, that William and Mary Lowe are indeed his parents.
In 1860 his wife Mareda is in Green County, Wisconsin. Per Find-a-Grave she married David Lowe in 1869. 1870 census not yet found, but in 1875 she's in Kansas with David Lowe and her children Jacob, Mary, Abigail, Harriett, Charlotte, and Elora Rosetta (Canfield surname) and also with their daughter Anna Lowe b ca 1871 in Iowa.
In 1850 we found a David Lowe of the right age to be Mareda's husband, living in Green County, Wisconsin. 1860 census for him not yet found, but his mother and sibs are in Monroe County, Wisconsin, and we found a marriage record in Monroe County, Wisconsin, for David Lowe and Hannah Cleveland.
In other words, the records posted put David Lowe and Mareda in approximately the right place at conceivably the right time to get married. And in the records posted, David Lowe's parents are William and Mary. There's not proof here, but at least these records tell more about where to look for proofs.
The Find-a-Grave creator seems to have the marriage record for David and Mareda, which may state his parents' names. So that's worth an email. And for the marriage to Hannah, the link for the marriage record I posted lets you order the original of that.
The U.S. Burial Registers, Military Posts and National Cemeteries say that the David Lowe who died in 1911 in Los Angeles, California, served in the 10th Wisconsin infantry in the Civil War. Los Angeles City Directory shows David and Mareda Lowe. His son George W Lowe appears in Los Angeles with children born in Wisconsin and Minnesota. These records among additional clues tie the family in California to the family in the records in Wisconsin.
The death records for David Lowe's parents, if they were William and Mary as we suspect, will perhaps tell more about them and should be searched. You also may be able to find obits for them.
Ditto for David's siblings. Their marriage records, death records, and obits may tell more about the parents. Again, if David does belong to the William and Mary family we found in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, the children of the family are (as shown in the 1850 census):
Benjamin Lowe born about 1832
Joseph P Lowe born about 1834
David Lowe born about 1836
Sarah born about 1838
William Lowe born about 1840
John C F Lowe born about 1843
Cyrus Lowe born about 1845
Mary E Lowe born about 1849
I neglected to post the place of birth with those sibs so one would start by fetching that info for them.
David's approx date of birth might be more accurate in the 1850 census record than the dob in later records in Los Angeles, when he was in a care-giving institution. Also he could have lied about his age on military records, and made himself a little older, and that is the dob they are using. And anyway, the discrepancy in his dob in the records falls within the normal range of discrepancies for genealogy records.
Okay, hope this helps. :D

Perhaps this death record is what establishes David Lowe and Hannah Hutchins as parents?
The following COULD be your David Lowe. I suspect, from your query, that you've looked at this record. Again, it's helpful if you post your records, that way researchers don't spend time finding what you already have, and we'd have made progress instead (maybe, lol):
1850
Mount Pleasant, Green, Wisconsin
William Lowe 45 b about 1805 Virginia
Mary Lowe 43 b about 1807 Virginia
Benjamin Lowe 18
Joseph P Lowe 16
David Lowe 14 b abt 1836 Ohio <---------------
Sarah Lowe 12
William H Lowe 10
John C F Lowe 7
Cyrus Lowe 5
Mary E Lowe 1
In 1860 this family is in Greenfield, Monroe, Wisconsin; David is grown up and not with the family. In 1840 only heads of household were listed in the census, so David would not be enumerated at that time.
1860
Greenfield, Monroe, Wisconsin
Post Office: Tunnel City
Mary Lowe 53 born about 1807 Pennsylvania
William H Lowe 20
John C Lowe 17
Cyrus L Lowe 15
Mary E Lowe 13
Susan Sandelin 8
The above records are not falling into line. That is, there is no clear place of birth for David Lowe's parents, and more research needed to ensure all the above refers to the same person. This maybe is the problem you are talking about! - or maybe it's just that I'm finding different records than what you have identified. There is more than one David Lowe of this vintage so we have to take care to synchronize. For me this is one day of searching and posting within a couple of hours. Given the disparities, the above research will take more work to verify. If you post transcriptions of your records and tell all you know, that will enable everybody to assess whether the information is all about the SAME individuals. Will appreciate your doing that - thanks.
