Mattie Benoist m George Blundell 2/28/1899 Washoe NV
Reno State Gazette 1/27/1906
Mrs. Lloyd Benoist was the widow of James Sandusky, who was killed when his team ran over him on the Plaza a year ago...she was married last November in Pyramid Lake
In a related story, Mattie was quoted as saying that she intended to kill her brother and is sorry that she didn't succeed.
According to Mrs. Lloyd Benoist, the brother and sister had been enemies for years, and on that day, Mattie rode over to their ranch and started telling Mrs. Lloyd what a terrible man Lloyd was. He told her to stop, Mattie swore at him, Lloyd slapped her and told her to stop, Mattie continued to swear at him. Lloyd hit her in the mouth, and Mattie said, "This will end our quarrel, I am going to kill you."...Mrs. Blundell turned to her sister Irene and asked for her revolver, Irene refused...she went inside and got Gus Benoist's shotgun. They took the shotgun away from her, she found it, waited for him to come back, and then shot him while he was in his wagon. Mattie is Lloyd's oldest sister.
Mrs. Lloyd Benoist is the daughter of M/M W. D. Cook of Fallon, she is only about 20.
In yet another related story, Lloyd was shot in the ear and pellets went into his skull. They became infected, and had to be drained, and the hole in his scalp was as big as a hen's egg.
The doctors reoperated and cleaned out the wound, and by 3/27 he was much better and eating.
Irene, age 19, married Samuel J Collins of Chilcoot CA, age 29 10/14/1908
Gus married Nettie F. Knose 5/30/1907 but she filed for divorce on grounds of desertion and non-support. It was granted 3/27/1911.
George and Mattie divorced in Sept 1911, and in March 1912 the second Mrs. George (Leona) Blundell filed a complaint saying that Mattie came to their ranch and threatened to kill her former husband George.
