William filed for voluntary bankrupcy in Lake Cty SD in 1903 and was arrested for perjury in that case in 1904. According to a story dated 11/10/1903, in the State News Notes, Aberdeen, SD, he was formerly a resident of Moody and Minnehaha Counties, then went to Rock Rapids, IA. His creditors had filed a petition for involuntary bankrupcy in IA, in order to escape them he moved to SD and filed voluntary bankrupcy, saying that his place of business was Enterprise, Moody County.
11/25/1910 he was arrested for theft of some threashing maching parts and while in jail, slit his own throat and died. He had lived in Rock Rapids, IA. He was an alcoholic and had threatened suicide before. He was buried in Rock Rapids, IA. He felt that he was a disgrace to himself and his family. He was survived by a widow and two children, two other children were buried in Rock Rapids. A brother lives in Granite, MN.
Martha died in 1940. They had a daughter, Wilma, that died in 1888.
His wife Martha was the former Martha Shutt.
