William Wehner
William Wehner was a German immigrant who first settled in Chicago. He established a painting studio in the 1880's in Milwaukee that produced very large paintings (42ftx340ft). One of these paintings, called cycloramas, which depicts the civil war battle of Atlanta, is now a tourist attraction in Atlanta, GA. Wehner moved to San Jose CA in the 1880's and became one of the pioneers in Northern California's wine industry. His personal residence, a 7300 sq. ft. estate still stands and is being fully restored, with completion planned for December, 2005. This home was designed by the famous chicago-based architectural firm of Burnham & Root.
