Ah! I see. Yes, the problem then is much larger than I envisioned. Too bad the duplications began so early and continued so long...
How about this: Download your tree-with-duplications to your computer to your own genealogy software - the software you now own or that you will shortly receive as a Christmas gift.
Then fire away at your Ancestry tree, working from the earliest people first and moving toward modern times to eliminate the duplications.
Now, you did a great job. Yes, it took five months, and we missed you. However, compared to doing genealogy in the "olden days," it was not so bad.
AND you have a backup plan - that your original materials are intact, and if you believe something is missing, as you work with your genealogy, then you can look it up in your "back up" tree.
