Al G Barnes (Alphaeus Barnes Stonehouse), died in Indio, CA 7/25/1931. He had sold his shows two years earlier. His first wife, who had obtained a divorce from him two years earlier, said his shows were worth $3,000,000. He was 69, and died from pneumonia and complications. At his bedside was his 3rd wife, Mrs. Margaret Goldsborough, former wife of a Colorado cattleman. They married Dec 1930 in Phoenix.

Mrs. Dollie Barlow Barnes was his first wife and Mrs. Jane Hartigan Barnes, who had his only children, two girls and a boy. A sister, who lives in Michigan, was his only other survivor.

Two years prior to his death, he sold his businesses fof $1,000,000 and wanted to live a very quiet life, but then his health failed. He had lived in Indio 7 months to try and recuperate from his lung illnesses, and his ranch was guarded to protect his privacy.

After his estate papers were filed, it was stated that his estate was only worth about $5,000, he had been involved in a lot of civil litigation, mostly centered around his two exwives.

A book was written about him, titled "Al G. Barnes, Master Showman" by Dave Robeson. It was published in 1935.
