Elizabeth "Bettie" Lewis Jordan Lady San Bernadino 1938
I recently started a search of my great grandmother Elizabeth "Bettie" Lewis Jordan Lady.I posted here in the Forum and got several new bits of information from some very kind people!!
I knew that she had been killed by her second husband (not my great grandfather) and her two daughters from that marriage had been left orphaned. But I did not know, how this happened. I have learned that the murder was completed by strangulation and "beaten with a crowbar."
I have learned that this second husband, Charles Fain Lady, had been in a mental hospital (Spandra State Hospital) and had been recently released prior to the murder/suicide.I have learned information about his parents (names, dates of birth and death, and burial location).
Regarding my great grandmother, I have learned that her name is listed as Bettie Lady on her death certificate (#31517) and that she had filed for divorce prior to the murder (which I was thankful for; that she was not just going to stay in her horrible situation.)
What I still need to learn is where her body was buried.I am going to send away for a death certificate, but have not been able to do it yet.Does anyone know where the poor were buried during 1938?Does anyone have any suggestions for finding her burial site??
Also, does anyone know if I could get copies of the filing for divorce, if the divorce had never actually been completed (due to her untimely death)?I would love to have that.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated!!Thank you so much, Valerie Dee Walker
