MORTON, formerly of Indian Gulch, was shot and mortally wounded, as is supposed, on Wednesday last, near Murray's flour mill on the Merced, by a Mr. KELSEY. Something about a ditch leading to the mill led to the affair; but of its particulars enough are not received to make a statement of facts. Both, however, had 6-shooters, and both used them -- KELSEY twice. MORTON was hit the 2nd shot, the ball grazing his arm and striking him in the side at the distance of an inch or 2 above the hip; thence it went through him with an upward direction. He was alive last Saturday, but it is almost impossible that he can live. He has been for some years prior to this, Chinese tax collector for this district, and a young man esteemed and respected. KELSEY had an examination, with what result is not known here. Notify Administrator about this message?
