looking for a William Evans who was supposed to have been involved in a stagecoach robbery and shooting in around Stockton, and in Calveras County,CA. He escaped from the insane asylum I believe in Stockton,CA.I was just curious, as I saw an article in the Wild West magazine in the Aug.1991 issue of him mentioned in an article, entitled,"hard-hitting Sheriff, Ben Thorn, the law of Calveras County." This Evans supposedly stayed at a Rooks Ranch there when this happened. Just wondering if there was such a person by that name on the prison records at San Quentin? I had a great-grandfather by the name of Wm. H.Evans who supposedly went out west on a gold expedition and never returned. I don't have the dates he went, but I think it was after 1878.
