I have frequented the Archives for many years and still visit at least monthly. What you describe is more or less still the same procedure. All court records before 1900 now reside at the Huntington. This includes criminal, civil, adoption, probate, divorce, etc. The indexes to these records still reside at 222 N Hill Street. I have been told that copies of the indexes are also available at the Huntington but I have not verified this. I have visited the Huntington when the occasion arises (ie. records before 1900) and have found what I was looking for. These records are all the original paper records as they were never microfilmed.
