Donna, Sorry for the delay in responding to your message. My book, "The Saga of Inyo County" states that Diaz Lake was formed from the aftermath of the 1872 earthquake. It was fed by Diaz Creek as well as several springs which were in danger of drying up due to the ground pumping of the City of LA in later years. As to the name, my husband thinks that it got its name from Diaz Creek which may have been named from the location of the Diaz Ranch. Perhaps other readers can verify this information. I'm not sure if there is any relation to our Diaz family or not. Barb
