I went to the county library and checked the death indexes as well as the listing of the people buried in the Ferndale Cemetery. The only two listed in the cemetery are:

Chase, William H.
S O H.B. &A (son of H.B. and A)
21 Feb. 1867
24 Jan. 1889

Chase, H.B.
Co. D
40th Iowa Inf. ( this probably meant he was in the civil war - 40th Iowa Infantry)

This may mean that there are only two headstones. The Ferndale cemetery is on a hill and very hard to park and then climb up and try to find a grave. The Ferndale museum may have a map that would tell just where the graves are. Take a look at this picture to see what I mean about the cemetery location.

I looked up Hiram and Almira in the death index. Here is what I found:

CHASE, Hiram B. Died: 27 Sep 1887 Port Kenyon. Born: 10 June 1827, Virginia. Cause: Enlarged Heart. Wife: Almira Chase, Married 17 Nov. 1853 in Iowa. Came to California Oct 1876. Obituary Ferndale Enterprise 7 Oct 1887.

CHASE, Almira Died: 9 Jan 1910 at Port Kenyon age 73 years, 1 mo, 17 days, Cause Heart failure, old age. born Ohio 25 Nov 1836, Parents: Sarah (Knight) & Davis Trotter. Had 9 children, 2 sons living, Charles and Elmer Chase. Obituary Ferndale Enterprise 11 Jan 1910.
