Ransel Tyrrell built the water system in Ferndale to be supplied by two springs on his extensive property holdings. He arrived in Humboldt county in 1860. He married Eliza J. Gill in 1858. Their children were, Herbert A., Mary E., Frank G., Edith A., Zada, Robert S., Bertha, Morton and Elton. From the book "Ferndale --- The Village 1875-1893" Much information about the Tyrrell and Gill families in the Humboldt Room at the Humboldt County Public Library. Email me for more information.
