The California Death Index 1905-1929:
Joe Volpa, died 6/12/1925, his age was 17, he died in Fresno Co.

The 1920 Census for Fresno:
Sam Volpa and Mamie
Joe, son, age 12, born in CA to both parents born in Italy.
--The census was enumerated on 3 January. So he probably wasn't born in 1908, but in 1907. With his death in June/1925, age 17, his DOB was probably between June and December 1907.

Cemetery Search: (Does show Sam Volpa, but not Marie or Joseph)

I'd recommend the Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness for research, but NOT necessarily for an obit. Obits then were not what they are today. They might find a death notice, more of an advertisement for a funeral home. An obit would have been written by a reporter about the death of the famous/infamous, victims of crime or accident. Due to his age, he "might" qualify for that type of article.
