Mary,
Was wondering if you have any connection or information about the Wakefield family that settled in Del Norte early 1890's.

George W. Wakefield bought up some land near Crescent City and it was called Wakefield, CA for a brief period of time. His family helped run the Wakefield store, Horse race track, saloon, photog. shop, & merch. store. They ran the post office for a few years, cancel stamped Wakefield, CA on letters.

George Washington Wakefield Son of James Wakefield and Helious Parsons Wakefield born in 1854 Linn, Iowa, they lived at Nodaway Co. Missouri for quite a few years before coming out with his wife Sarah Ann Coverdell and 4 children, Will, Minnie, Art and Ernest "Gus". Also his parents came out.

Will married Josie Parks
Minnie m. Myron Stevens
Art m. Margaret McNamara
Ernest "Gus" never married

George died in 1938
Sarah Ann in 1923
Will died in 1933
Minnie d. 1954
Art 1951
Ernest 1946

I do have some info from the Hist. society.
