Alas. . . this family appears to be related, but is not the William I am seeking. It would appear, from the scant information I have, that your William would be the first cousin of the William I want, and therefore also my great-grandmother's cousin, too!
My William Dolbow (and g-grandmother Emma and sibling Eli) was the son of Dennis and Rebecca Ritchie Dolbow. All were born in between 1845 and 1853.
Another researcher says, on the basis of hand-copied notes from a now-missing Bible, "my Daniel D. Dolbow, born about 1808 in Upper Penn's Neck, Salem County, New Jersey, was married to Mary Arnold, born about 1811."
"The family records state that Daniel's parents were Gabriel and Mary and he had some siblings named: Erick, Isaac, Dennis, Eli and Gideon (twins), Amy (married George Clark), George,Barbara (Benjamin Cooper), and Ann (married John P. Davis)."
I have been unable to locate death records for Dennis Dolbow (d bef 1860), Rebecca Ritchie (d 1878 per my Bible, but record missing elsewhere), and William Dolbow their son. The 3rd sibling, Eli, died early in the Civil War. I have probate records but not a death record per se for Eli.
I have long been aware that Isaac and his family, along with Eli and others in Illinois in the 1850s, were related to my Dennis-- but records to PROVE that relationship have not yet been found!
It bothers me a lot to not be able to say what happened to William Dolbow, Emma's brother. I was so hoping the Arbuckle family would turn out to be his.
One last question: do you know when your William's family arrived in California? My Emma/Emily had to travel with *somebody,* but no indication how she got to California, or with whom (besides her 3 children, after her husband's death from his Civil War service).
Many thanks for your post and helpful comments! Maybe, working together, we will finally connect the dots between the Illinois Dolbow families :)
