My name is Joan Merriam, and I'm a freelance journalist writing an article for "Sierra Heritage" magazine on lone graves in the Mother Lode region. I've discovered one such site in Calaveras Co., about 5 miles west of Copperopolis on Old Highway 4 (Telegraph Road). The name on the marble tombstone is Robert Beardslee--the tombstone contains the following information: "Robert Beardslee Born Feb. 19, 1826 Died May 11, 1888 Aged 62 years Pioneer of California and Native of Pennsylvania"
