Mary: I no longer live in Chico but the University library has most of the back issues of newspapers on film. In 1958 the name of the paper would have been The Chico Enterprise Record. It is now the Enterprise I believe. They are on the internet but I do not know that they do research. I would suggest you contact the Paradise Genealogical Society they also have a great library and for a small fee I have found that most societies will do limited research. Their address can be found on the internet. Good Luck.
