Hi Margaret,

I can certainly see where the Rose name has caused you some trouble. I am also having difficulty finding anything. Thanks to your great detective work though, I was able to locate an obituary that should help you out. This is from the Oakland Tribune, 25 August 1953:

"Last Rites for Sgt. Henry Rose

A Requiem High Mass was offered today in St. Augustine's Church for Sgt. Henry Thomas Rose, 52, of the Oakland Police Department, who died of a heart ailment Saturday in a local hospital.

Sergeant Rose, a native of Oakland, was a member of the force for 23 years. At the time of his death he was serving with the vice squad. He lived at 599 62nd Street.

The officer was a member of the Widows and Orphans' Association, the International Footprinters' Association and Le Society De Camaraderie.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Violet Rose; two children, Patrolman Henry Rose Jr. of the Oakland Police Department and Mrs. Jeanne Lois Duncan of Concord; a brother, William A. Rose of El Cerrito; a sister, Mrs. Elsie McGill of Fresno, and three grandchildren.

Interment was in St. Joseph's Cemetery, San Pablo. The Rosary was recited last night in the Grant Miller Mortuary."

I do not live too far away from San Pablo, and when the weather is more cooperative (it's very hot!), I'll be glad to go and take a tombstone picture for you. In the meantime, I'll keep searching through the newspapers. If I find anything, I'll post it here.

Thanks for getting in touch with me!

P.S. If you'd like, I can email a copy of the above obituary to you.
