Hi Jeannie. Thank you for your kind offer to help with others genealogy searches. I have a few brick walls in Alameda that I have been working on for several years. My husband's g-g-grandfather was Manuel ROSE. He was born ca. 1874 in Alameda. He married Alice HARDY/HARTY( in California)November 5, 1893. I have a copy of their marriage license. On it he is listed as 19 and she as 18. Getting beyond this has been a problem. There are numerous Manuel ROSE'S in the area at the same time. On the other hand there are only two Alice's that seem to be in the area in the 1880 census that could possibly match. I think that I may have found both of their families in the 1880 census(just in the past week). But connecting them for sure is the problem. I think I need to maybe find some obituaries to do this. Unfortunately, I don't know when either Alice or Manuel died so I haven't been able to get any for them. Here are the two families I believe are connected from the 1880 census:

1880 Alameda Co., Oakland, Dist.6
Morris HARTY 40 b.Ireland
Delia " 35 b.Ireland
Catherine " 8 b.CA
Margaret " 6 b.CA
Alice " 5 b.CA

According to the 1900 census for Manuel and Alice her parents are b.Ireland.

1880 Alameda C., Eden, Dist.22
Manuel ROSE 36 b.AZORES
Angeline " 30 b.AZORES
William " 7 b.Mass
Manuel " 4 b.CA

Manuel and Alice are found in Contra Costa Co., p.188 in the 1900 census with their first born(my husband's g-grandfather)William Alfred ROSE. On the next page is a William ROSE b.Mass who is living in a boarding house that would fit as the brother from 1880. After that I cannot find Manuel and Alice in another census. In 1910 I found Manuel ROSE and Angeline ROSE living in Alameda, Oakland, Ward 6, Dist.1. With them is their Grandson, Harry age 10. I believe this could be the second son of Manuel and Alice who I think was actually named Henry. I can't find them in any other census. I did find an Angeline ROSE in the CADI who died in Alameda May 9, 1910. Maybe you could see if there is an Obituary for her. Manuel and Alice also had a third child. According to her obituary her name was Elsie Ann ROSE. I can't find her in any census though she was supposed to have been born in 1907. Let me know if you would like to try helping with my search.
