Five towns merged to form Fremont in the late 1950s. Decoto and Alvarado merged into Union City, the city just north of Fremont. The eastern part of Union City is still called Decoto by many. The eighth town would be Newark, still a separate city.

Decoto Road is a major road in UC and for a mile or so in Fremont. It may have extended into Newark at one time but would most likely be what is now Jarvis Road.

About 30-40 000 people now live in the Decoto area.
