I have more information on Hershel McGee. My sister in law, who was near his age said Hershel did not drown in Lake Merrit. People could go boating in that lake of course, but Hershel was somewhere for swimming. Also, I believe Hershel Lee McGee is probably the person we are looking for, as he was near the age of another cousin who also died in the fall of 1944 with kidney disease. The family said the mother of Hershel was named Myrtle for sure. Her last name is still unknown. Thank you for your help.
