Mabel Rainbow, formerly Beattie, nee Bytheway/Bythway. After a great deal of research over many years I am now given to understand that granny Mabel was born Dersingham, Norfolk and was aged 30 in 1911, hence birth date 1880/81. She is shown to have been working as a nurse at the Brentford Union Infirmary in 1911, having previously worked at Brookwood Asylum in Surrey 1904 unti 1906 and at Darenth Asylum in Kent previous to this but dates unknown. I would dearly like to find a birth or baptism record for her to establish whether she was infact born in the UK as it has always been believed she was born in the USA because we know she was brought up and went to school in the USA. Her first husband and father were killed in a train crash whlst taking fruit to market from their fruit ranch and she and her mother then travelled to England where she worked on an offshore ship as nurse, the offshore ship being part of Darenth Asylum. As I am unable to travel to Norfolk to visit the Record Office if anyone can help in any way I would be thrilled. I believe she was a methodist and therefore do not know if this will hinder or help any searching.
