Hi Cousin, Was your father visiting Pretoria, South Africa in 1999? Here, below, is what I have on our family. Thanks for your note on the Louisiana State Museum. It was nice to see a picture of my great grandmother Marie Carmelite Brynes. PS- you may have heard of my grandfather (son of Marie C. Byrnes) who played the "Perfect Game" in chess and beat the world's Grant Master. He worked for a short time with one of the WIlliam Henry Byrnes judges during the great depression. William Henry Byrnes Sr. Born County Cavan, Ireland July 6, 1847 Son of J. Miles Byrnes and Sarah Nelson, came to the USA when he was 4 years old. (1851), Brothers Thomas, sisters Katherine (Kate) decalced "Sister Carmelites" Mrs Joy, Mrs Burns, Steinbach, Miss Sarah M., Mrs William T. Steinbach, Byrnes obituary says survivors---three sisters: Mrs Wiliam T Steinbach, Miss Sarah M Byrnes, Sister Katherine Nieeces and Nephews, children of his sisters:= Mrs. Joy, Mrs. Burns, Mrs, Steinbach [his brother Thomas died a young man] Edward Conery, Sr. Born County Kilkenny, Castle Corner (Cower?), Ireland His father, name unknown, died when he was young, and his mother and brothers moved to England-Stockport, from which he became a seaman at age 14, later abandoning ship in Mobile, Alabama, USA (2 years later) His wife was Anna Caffery, born in Old Castle, County Meath, Ireland.
