Looking for information on a family named BURNS or BYRNES (they spelled it both ways) who came to Auburn (or at least Cayuga County) around the 1840s. In the 1850 census for Auburn the family is headed by a lady named Mary who is 50. There is also Martin 30 years old, Thomas 28, Edward 25, Francis 23, James 14, Mary 28 and Mary Burns 6 months old. All born Ireland except the young Mary who is the daughter of Martin and Mary and was baptized at Holy Family Church. Mary's maiden name was HUTCHISON. Martin and Mary also had at least three other children. Elizabeth my ggrandmother born 1855, Catherine born 1853 who married a man named William MOSLEY in 1882. Catherine died in 1889, and Francis who died unmarried in 1880. Many members of this family are buried at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Auburn, NY. Thanks. Joe McDonough
