Hello Joan,
I wish I could help but unfortunately I have not been able to find any of the descendants of this branch of the Byrnes.
I have written to various folk in California but none have responded.
If you know of have any male members of the Byrne family who are interested in the family history which goes back centuries, the first two volumes of The History of the Byrnes and O'Byrnes have just been published. The publisher's name is: House of Lochar who have a business on the island of Colonsay, Argyll, Scotland. If you Google www.houseoflochar.com you will find details.
My branch of the Byrnes who originated in Co. Wicklow, then went to Co. Carlow and in the late 1600s to Co. Kilkenny emigrated to Australia and NZ. Their history is written up in Volume 2 Chapter 9 "The Castle and the Country House".
I had my DNA tested at FamilyTreeDNA in Texas (FTDNA) and I found I had quite a few matches so if you know of any male Byrnes who are prepared to do the Y DNA test (for males only) you may be able to trace relatives and distant cousins that way.
I think FTDNA is running specials this week. The 12 and 25 marker level tests are too broad to be of much use but the 37 marker test is a good starting point and then going to the 67 marker test even more precise.
You can see the results if you go to the www site: World Families Byrne and click on the the line at the top that says Ydna results(or something like that). My group are in Section d where there are 3 Anthonys mentioned and a couple of others (Breens).
Do feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Anthony Byrne
