Larry E. Byrne
Larry E. Byrne of Hanover Park Larry E. Byrne passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at the age of 72. He was surrounded by his immediate family. Born in Antigo, Wis., June 25, 1935, he was raised in Green Bay, Wis., where he met and married his wife of 52 years on June 25, 1955. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Chicago. After five years in the city, Larry moved his family to the suburbs and became one of the first "pioneer" families to settle in the new subdivision of Hanover Park in 1961. They were among the first 50 families to make their home on what once was a former cornfield. Larry served the residents of Hanover Park in one capacity or another for most of his 46 year residency. He was a volunteer member on various committees throughout the years, and he was elected as a trustee to the Hanover Park Village Board and served from 1981 through 1985. He was a current member of the Development Commission, appointed in 1991 to the present. In addition to local volunteering of his time, Larry had served several years on a Parent-Teacher Advisory Committee for the Elgin area School District U46. He also was a board member of Citizens Against The Balefill (C.A.B.), an organized group of citizens which successfully stopped a landfill from being built and preserved several hundred acres of precious wildlife habitat. Larry was a tradesman, an all-around carpenter, roofer and sider. He also built several spec homes in addition to his own beautiful home. While in the siding business, Larry won many awards and many trips to different parts of the world. He loved working with his hands, and he loved working outdoors. Larry was an avid skeet shooter, winning a multitude of championships for many years. Skeet shooting was his passion, and he also enjoyed golfing with his buddies. He enjoyed all spectator sports, but football was his favorite, and his favorite team was the Green Bay Packers. He also loved the NASCAR races. He himself raced stock cars while in Green Bay. Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Mary; his daughters, Kathleen and Karen Byrne; his son, Larry M. Byrne; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his sisters, Nancy Subject and Margaret (Art) Roth; sister-in-law, Pat (Jim) Van Dreel; many nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many dear friends. He will be missed by all those who loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Evangeline; his sister, Betty; sister-in-law, Gerri; and many aunts and uncles. A memorial service will be held in the near future and a notice will be given at that time.
