I have been researching Byrne(s) that came to Philadelphia around 1842.Bernard Byrne married Catherine Ward, whose sister, Elizabeth Ward's obit said she was from Parish Carrick, County Monaghan.I have a feeling it may actually be Carrickmacross, rather than Carrick, since I've been told there is no actual Parish named Carrick in Ireland, but rather that many places have Carrick in them.I was interested in your post since you said your Byrne family came to Philadelphia and is associated with the Hughes and Kelley families.I have 2 Hughes babies (James and Florence buried 1893 and 1896)with myByrne family at New Cathedral, which leads me to believe that I too have a Hughes connection, but I haven't discovered what it is.I found my family in the 1850 census with the name spelled Burns. They are living next to Francis Ward and family who I believe to be Catherine's brother, and they are next to a Joseph Burns who is one family away from Lawrence Kelley. In the 1860 census a James Burns and wife Ann are living next to Francis Ward.My Bernard and family were living in Lancaster County for the 1860 and 1870 censuses and were back in Philadelphia by the 1880 census.Although early censuses spell the name Burns, all the legal and church papers I have spell it Byrne or Byrnes. Please contact me at [email protected] if you think we have a match in our families.I have much information I could share with you.
