Jack C. Byrd, 77, Elizabethton, Carter Co TN, passed away
Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at his residence following
a lingering illness.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Jake
and Lola Mosley Byrd. He was a retired Electrician from
TVA. He was a member of IBEW 934, Kingsport, TN. He
attended East Side Baptist Church and was a member of the
Brownlow Scalf Sunday School Class.

Mr. Byrd was a member of Watauga Masonic Lodge #622,
Member of Jericho Shrine Temple, Kingsport, and the V.F.W.
Post 2166 of Elizabethton, TN.

Mr. Byrd served in the United States Navy during the
Korean Conflict.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a
brother, W. H. Byrd; and two sisters, Ora Dempsey and
Becky Dugger.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Alsie Jackson
Byrd; daughter son-in-law, Lisa and Michael Williams,
Kingsport, TN; the joy of his life was his granddaughter,
Emily Williams, whom he so fondly called 'Peaches'; three
sisters, Kate Teague, Bea Boyd, and Meril Armstrong, all
of Johnson City, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express a special thank you to
the Caris Hospice who lovingly cared for him and the family.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.,
Friday, in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the
residence.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m., Friday,
September 25, 2009, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor
Jeremy Rhoton officiating.

Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m.,
Saturday, September 26, 2009, in Happy Valley Memorial
Park with Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. Music will be
provided by Mr. Claude Duncan. Active Pallbearers, who are
requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m.,
Saturday, will be men of his Sunday School Class. Honorary
Pallbearers will be neighbors, friends, and the men he had
coffee with at Hardee’s.

Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at
10:30 a.m. Saturday to go to the cemetery.

To those who prefer Memorials may be made in memory of Mr.
Byrd to the East Side Baptist Church, 1509 Siam Road,
Elizabethton, TN 37643.
