Billy Carson Byrd, 71, TN, obituary; s/o Will and Emma Eggers Byrd

Billy Carson Byrd, 71, of Roan Mountain, TN, passed away
Thursday, August 13, 2009, at home following an extended
illness. He was born August 28, 1937.

Mr. Byrd had worked in construction for most of his life.
He retired from the State of Tennessee Department of
Transportation. He loved family time and the outdoors,
camping, fishing and hunting. He was a retired Roan
Mountain Volunteer Fireman. Mr. Byrd was a 32nd degree
Mason of Roan Mountain Masonic Lodge #566 F&AM, Scottish
Rite and a Shriner for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Emma
Eggers Byrd; and a brother, Bobby 'Andy' Byrd.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Lathania Hughes
Byrd of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Kim
Byrd, Roan Mountain, TN; a daughter and son-in-law, Terry
and Katrina Proffitt, Roan Mountain, TN; three grand-
children, Mark Byrd, Daranda McCoury, and Renee Proffitt;
two great grandchildren, Eowyn and Savannah McCoury; three
brothers and sisters-in-law, Bennie and Sharon Byrd,
Morganton, NC, Bennett and Mary Alice Byrd, Baxter and
Janet Byrd, all of Zionville, NC; sister-in-law, Bobbie
Jean Byrd; one sister and brother-in-law, Rosedna and
Ronnie Thomas, Zionville, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel
on Saturday, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., prior to the service.

The funeral service for Mr. Billy Carson Byrd will be
conducted at 8 p.m., Saturday, August 15, 2009, in the
Rhododendron Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Roan
Mountain, with Rev. Ronald Lacky officiating.

The graveside service and interment will be on Sunday,
August 16, 2009, at Graybeal Cemetery at 11 a.m. Everyone
is welcome to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. on Sunday
for the service. Pallbearers will be selected from family
and friends.
