Barbara, From the research I have done, I am a direct decendant of David Byrd and Jane Morehead. My ggg grandfather was Samuel Byrd, the brother of the group of families listed in this post that came from TN and AL and traveled through Texas on to California. Samuel's family lived in Peter's Colony, TX in the 1850's. Samuel's wife's name was Elizabeth Horn and the father-in-law listed was Jeremiah Horn. I decend from one of their son's, Pleasant Wesley Byrd, who served with his cousin, John Wesley Byrd, son of James Byrd listed in the post that went to Calif, in the Civil War. Pleasant Wesley Byrd was a circuit riding Methodist Minister here in Texas and my families have remained here since early 1850's. There are differing stories between the Calif group and my group on whether Samuel actually made it to Texas from AL. The Calif group said he made it here and died shortly before going on to Calif with the others. My side of the family tradition says he died on his way to Texas with this family but his wife and children made it and settled near her father. Either way, I am one of those decendants.
