That is something I'd never heard before.Thanks.My family was originally named "Bird" and probably came from England but there is a slim possibility that they were of Cherokee descent since the farthest I've been able to trace them was Tennessee.However, my ggrandfather changed the name to "Byrd" when he married and moved away from the rest of the family we think because he didn't want his name associated with the Indians.Incidentally, the current tribal chief of the Cherokees is named Bird and that is a clan name not only of the Cherokee but also of the Navajo I think.
