Byrd Family of Orangeburg District
I would like help in knowing how the Byrd family is related to the Creel family of orangeburg district/county and colleton county SOUTH CAROLINA in the late 1700's-early 1800's. The Creels of Colleton Co. left for MS in the early 1830's. Specifically I would like information on William Byrd and whether a sister or daughter married John Creel, Sr. Possible name may be Catherine.
The Byrd family seems to be closely associated with the Creel family and is included in the census data give. It is important to note that the Byrd family also appears in conjunction wioth the Creel family in North Carolina during this same time frame. The census data for Richard and other Creels in Orangeburg District/County and Colleton County are given below. With the exception of the 1790 census data the below information was verified through research at the National Archives in Atlanta, Georgia on 1/30/2001. I would also like to mention that information from geneaology.com contained errors in their transcriptions. Unless you look at the actual census image do not place all of your trust in it.
Colleton County was established as one of the original four counties of South Carolina in 1682.In 1769 the counties were split into seven Judicial Circuits, Beaufort, Camden, Charleston, Cheraws, Georgetown, Ninty-Six and Orangeburg. In 1798 Colleton County was re-formed from part of the Charleston District.
