I'll take that challenge.As far as I know there is no evidence that the Murphrees were Irish at the time they immigrated.How do you explain the fact that the name was much more common in England in the 1500s and 1600s than it was in Ireland?
I have a number of families that moved from England to Ireland after the troubles of the late 1600s, and are today widely thought to be "Irish".Yet they immigrated to America in the 1600s from England, not Ireland.
