Those Alabama Byfords
Recently we have encountered some Byfords who seem to have originated in Alabama. Sheila has brought our attention to the Byfords mentioned in the book, "Memories of Island 35". After re-reading that book and the correspondence I had with John Byford from TN in 1994 I found the following.
"Most of the deceased Byfords, who lived on Island 35, are buried in the Poplar Grove cemetery at Drummonds, TN. I found the tombstone of William Benjamin Byford (son of Henry E. and Sarah) and it states that he was born at Tuscaloosa, AL - June 14, 1861."
Harold has mentioned before (4/12/99) that his ggggrandfater was Aquilla Byford and is found in the 1805 Georgia land lottery. He is also found in the easily verifiable 1830 Blount county AL Federal Census.
This got me to wondering about the connection between those Byfords in Georgia in the very early 1800's and those found in AL in the period 1830-1870. After a little digging around I found the following:
